Tom Ryan, President of Truterra, appeared on Bloomberg Businessweek podcast this week to discuss Truterra’s 2022 carbon results. In the two years since the program’s inception, Truterra has paid over $9 million to farmers for sequestering 462,000 metric tons of carbon.
Throughout the conversation, Tom highlighted how Truterra helps farmers adopt agronomic, economic and environmentally sound practices on their operations to create new market opportunities.
“Farmers are the ultimate definition of regenerative ag because if they’re not leaving that land in a better spot than when they found it, they cease to exist,” he said. “At Truterra, we work to help them create those practices that guide that and lead to that result. And we also work with both public and private sector investment to manage the risk versus reward so that it’s economically viable for the farmer to maintain or add to their current bottom line.”
The discussion highlighted the importance of collaboration. Truterra, along with its ag retail network, consults with farmers and companies in the food and ag value chain to further sustainability goals and provide a farmer-friendly approach to conservation in agriculture.
“We truly are focused on mitigating the impact that farming has on the environment while still feeding a growing population and meeting the needs of the consumer,” he said. Click here to listen to the interview and learn more.
